Amongst the many compliments and claims we hear back from customers about our Goat Milk Soap, one of the most common is how it makes the perfect gift. People love to use it, and even more, they love to share it. In honor of its wonderful gifting nature we've titled our new holiday soap the 'Julbock'. 

The Julbock (Yule Buck) is the bringer of gifts in Germanic and Scandinavian tradition. The last bundle of grain harvested in the fall is reserved to make a little straw goat for the upcoming holiday season. At the beginning of Yule these little goats are gifted or secretly placed into the homes of close neighbors. Some of the town's youth also dress up as a goat and distribute gifts to all the other children.

Our holiday gifting soap, the Julbock, is delightfully scented with Hay Absolute, Hops, Frankincense, Balsam Peru & Clary Sage, and exudes a bright grassy musk. It has received a pleasant, endearing response from all those who have smelled it this far!  

There is much speculation as to how the tradition of the Julbock first began, but it is curiously ironic that the start of Yule, December 21st, is also the day the sun moves into the zodiac sign of Capricorn, the goat. Much of Germanic, and subsequently Scandinavian, tradition personified celestial activity, especially the death of the sun at the winter solstice and his new birth on the morning of the 25th. My guess is, the Julbock, being made with the last sheaf of the grain of Virgo, is just another telling of the same beloved Christmas story.
